Andre Paras on leaving showbiz to join PBA: 'There might come a time, when I have to choose'

By Aedrianne Acar

It seems TV host-actor Andre Paras is not yet ready to choose between showbiz or his basketball career.

The son of PBA legend Benjie Paras confirmed in an interview with 24 Oras last month that he's pursuing his dream to play professional basketball.

He said back then, “The reason why I decided to apply for that is because I'm chasing my dreams. I've always wanted to play basketball,”

During the Feb. 8 media conference for his new show Game of the Gens, Andre shared more details about his PBA plans to the press.

He said “All I can say is this March po 'yung draft po namin. Hopefully, all goes well. Tuluy-tuloy na po ako.”

Andre quickly clarified that he has no plans of leaving GMA Network after the network has shown immense support for him.

Andre explained, “But of course, hindi ko 'to iiwan [Game of the Gens], cause I'm very thankful with GMA-7,

“GMA has supported me with my decision.

“March 14, around that date, I've heard that's the draft, so kahit papaano naman I'm very thankful, kasi I have time to do tapings for Game of the Gens and I can still train individually.

“So, I have the best of both worlds at the moment, so 'yun lang po. I did apply and that's a fact.”

But what if he has to make a choice between showbiz and professional basketball, which would he choose?

Andre answered frankly, “'Yung sagot ko now, kasi my motto in life it's always: change your happiness to what makes you happy.

“And showbiz or hosting makes me happy, basketball makes me happy. And at this point sabay pa rin sila, so I have no reason to choose [one], kasi sabay naman po sila--both make me happy, but there might come a time, when I have to choose and I don't know the answer to that yet.

“So, I guess, makikita n'o na lang one day, pagtingin n'yo ng TV--Am I on court or kung wala, e, di nasa TV ako. So, you'll know the answer to that.”

Meanwhile, his Game of the Gens co-host Sef Cadayona thinks that Andre has what it takes to balance his showbiz career and playing in the PBA.

Sef declared, “So far, hindi ka pa naman nagkakaroon ng ganun dilemma, kasi nga well managed 'yung time ni Andre, e, nama-manage talaga ng training niya, 'tsaka ng pagti-tape niya,

“Kayang-kaya, kayang-kaya ni Andre 'yan.”
