Mel Tiangco trends as 'first Pinay on Mars' after '24 Oras' report

Kapuso anchor Mel Tiangco became a hot topic among netizens after she presented a 24 Oras segment about the historic NASA Perseverance rover landing on Mars and the Filipino-American engineers who helped make it a success.

While Mel was reporting on one side of the 24 Oras studio, augmented reality (AR) graphics was also flashing on television, making it look like Mel was on Mars.

She soon got tagged on social media as the "first Pinay on Mars" while netizens created funny memes.

Mel, or Tita Mel as she is fondly called by many, has been going viral for being a familiar face on TV and the amusing memes that go along with 24 Oras's realistic simulation graphics.

Earlier this year, she was dubbed as the Mother of Dragons for her Chinese New Year reportage.

In 2020, her segments on the Taal Volcano showed her beside graphics looking like the Taal Lake, getting heartwarming reactions from netizens who were concerned that Tita Mel was "stranded."
