New Generation's Movie Queen Bea Alonzo revealed she had a firsthand experience with someone who has Alzheimer's disease.
During the contract signing of her movie with Asia's Multimedia Star Alden Richards on March 2, Bea said that the grandmother of her ex-boyfriend had it.
She said, "I really felt bad for her nung lagi namin siyang nakakasama but sa family namin, wala naman kaming lahi."
To prepare for her role in the movie as a married woman who has early-onset Alzheimer's disease, Bea watched a lot of videos to study more about the disease.
"But I have been watching a lot of videos on YouTube about the disease, and sa totoo lang, sabi ko nga [kay Alden], medyo napapraning ako, nakakapraning.
"Tsaka I really feel for those na tinamaan ng disease, and for those who are taking care of those people who have Alzheimer's because it's not easy."
Bea added that their movie, the Philippine movie adaptation of the Japanese series 'Pure Soul,' the same source of the hit 2004 South Korean movie 'A Moment To Remember,' will show the reality of life when it comes to Alzheimer's.
She ended, "Actually, that's what we are tackling on doon sa pelikula, na how difficult it is to be in a relationship with a person who has that type of disease.
"And ako naman, bilang ako 'yung may character na may Alzheimer's, how she's going through it, and how she is losing her identity and how she's struggling to actually keep her relationship with [Alden's] character."
In the original Japanese drama 'Pure Soul,' the story revolves around married couple Koichi and Kaoru, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease around the same time she found out she was pregnant.
Fearing that her condition could be worse, Kaoru wrote a heartfelt letter to her daughter.
The Philippine movie adaptation of 'Pure Soul' will be co-produced by Viva Films, GMA Pictures, and APT Entertainment.
