Super Junior's latest track, 'House Party,' is a PSA in disguise

By Cara Emmeline Garcia

Legendary K-pop boy group Super Junior reminds everyone to keep their face mask on, maintain their distance, and stay at home in their latest track “House Party.”

“House Party,” the title track of their 10th album “The Renaissance,” is an addictive disco-pop genre that features cheerful and exciting rhythm, complemented by guitar riffs, trendy melody, and surprisingly trap music.

In the lyrics, the singers also celebrate being together despite the distance and difficulties faced due to COVID-19 and greeting a new day as the pandemic draws to a close.

The song's chorus goes, “Everybody now, let's put aside our feeling of wanting to be together for a while. This is my house party. / Yeah, according to the newly created rule, great manners protect each other. This is my house party / Good job, we're almost there / Keep in step until the last person stands up / Hands up beyond the wall / The world where everyone is connected without any physical contact / House Party.”

In the four-minute video, we initially see members Leeteuk, Yesung, Shindong, Eunhyuk, Donghae, Siwon, Ryeowook, and Kyuhyun transcend in an imaginary world after being cooped up for so long indoors.

By the 2-minute mark, the genre changes to its trap version where we see rapper Heechul dominating his verse as he tells listeners “it's dangerous outside for the time being,” before all the members join him in all-black suits.

Hours before the release of the new track, Super Junior delighted their fans with an exclusive behind-the-scenes look of their dance practice for the pop track under their official VLive channel.

There, each member discussed how the track means to them and to release it at a time of uncertainty.

Leader Leeteuk said, “The song is fresh. If you listen to it at first, you would think it's a fun song with a funky rhythm. But, there's a part in the middle that has a hip-hop rhythm.”

He added, “And when we filmed music videos in the past, we usually just lip-synced and filmed our group dances. But this time, there are a lot of different stories, and we can show you a lot of different spaces.”

Meanwhile, vocalist Ryeowook discussed how “The Renaissance” album felt more special than others, given that it's their 10th album to date.

“I really like the number 10, actually. It feels like a well-rounded and complete number,” he said.

“That complete feeling made me realize that Super Junior is finally releasing its 10th album. If you look back at our past songs or concepts since the first album, it makes you think, 'Was this all leading up to our 10th?'

“It's very well-packaged, and it's the whole package that's why I think it's the best.”

As usual, the behind-the-scenes video showed Super Junior members teasing one another whenever one is minutes late than the agreed time and having fun while doing mundane things for the camera.

By the end of their first session, Eunhyuk said, “It's fun, but it's exhausting.”

Besides “House Party,” Super Junior is also gearing up to release their documentary that will be released in theatres very soon.

The announcement was made by Leeteuk on Tuesday, March 16, during the group's online press conference.

He told the press, “The movie was initially scheduled to be released online, but we plan to show it in movie theaters nationwide.”

“House Party,” as well as the whole “The Renaissance” album, is out now on all digital music streaming sites.
