Hollywood actor Armie Hammer accused of sexual assault

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and Call Me By Your Name star Armie Hammer has been accused of raping a woman in Los Angeles in 2017.

The woman, named only as “Effie,” made the allegations during a virtual news conference alongside high-profile women's rights lawyer Gloria Allred on Thursday, March 18.

“I fell in love with him instantly,” she said.

However, as the relationship progressed, Armie was said to have used “manipulation tactics to exert control over me.”

She added, “He would test my devotion to him, finally removing and crossing my boundaries as he became increasingly more violent.”

Effie then accused the Hollywood actor of abusing her “mentally, emotionally, and sexually.”

She revealed, “Armie Hammer raped me for over four hours in Los Angeles during which he repeatedly slapped my head against a wall, bruising my face.

“During those four hours, I tried to get away, and he wouldn't let me. I thought he was going to kill me.

“He then left with no concern for my wellbeing. I was completely in shock, and I couldn't believe that someone I loved did that to me.”

According to the accuser, the alleged rape happened on 24 April 2017, and the situation left her in a suicidal state while feeling “immense guilt” for not speaking sooner.

Following the allegations, Armie's lawyer Andrew Brettler dismissed the said allegations.

According to Andrew, Armie's relationship with Effie is “completely consensual, discussed and agreed upon in advance, and mutually participatory.”

Furthermore, the lawyer said, “Her attention-seeking and ill-advised legal bid will only make it more difficult for real victims of sexual violence to get the justice they deserve."

In July 2020, Armie announced his divorce with wife Elizabeth Chambers, with whom he shares two children: Harper and Ford.

In the wake of the scandal, Elizabeth said on social media, “I am shocked, heartbroken, and devastated.

“Heartbreak aside, I am listening and will continue to listen and educate myself on these delicate matters. I didn't realize how much I didn't know.

“I support any victim of assault or abuse and urge anyone who has experienced this pain to seek the help she or he needs to heal.”

She added, “My sole focus and attention will continue to be on our children, on my work, and healing during this incredibly difficult time.”
