After soaring high in the national costume competition with her Philippine Eagle-inspired ensemble, Philippine-bet Samantha Bernardo is once again putting the spotlight on another endemic bird.
On Thursday, March 25, the beauty queen wore a beautiful emerald dress in the Miss Grand International preliminary competition designed by Filipino designer Louis Pangilinan.
The designer says that her beautiful embellished dress draws inspiration from the yellow-throated leafbird found in Palawan. Samantha represented the island province during her time at the Binbining Pilipinas competition.
He said, “This gown inspirits the small bird with broad wings that is undoubtedly recognizable by its green body color and yellow throat called the 'yellow-throated leafbird.'
“The bird is endemic to Palawan which Samantha Bernardo represents in Binibining Pilipinas.”
The beautiful evening gown is made of hand-embroidered beads and sequins, and is accentuated with gold crystals to represent the “yellow throat of the bird.” The feathers at the lower part of the dress, meanwhile, were extracted by hand and woven together.
He added, “Emerald green shows a woman's growth, humility, and courage -- characteristics that made our queen @samanthabernardo__ grand and awe-inspiring.”

Samantha Bernardo won the voter's hearts after showing off her #GRANDnadaWalk during the swimsuit competition that earned her a spot on the Top Five for the “Best in Swimsuit” award.
Her solo video, uploaded on March 23, has already garnered almost 300,000 views, 31,000 likes, and more than 5,000 comments from viewers.
The other Top Five winners include Indonesia, Mexico, Cambodia, and Paraguay.
The Miss Grand International coronation night will be held on March 27 in Bangkok, Thailand.
