More than 800 runners from across Western Visayas gathered at the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) Iloilo City Campus for Run UP XV, the 15th edition of the university's flagship fun run held as part of the annual UPV Alumni Homecoming.
Organized by the U.P. SILAK Alumni Association, Inc. in collaboration with the U.P. SILAK Brotherhood and the U.P. SILAB Sisterhood, the event promoted health and wellness while fostering stronger ties within the UP community and among participants from the wider public.
More than just an alumni activity, Run UP XV was open to participants of all ages and backgrounds, welcoming not only UP alumni, students, faculty, and staff, but also families, recreational runners, fitness enthusiasts, and members of the general public. The event underscored the university's commitment to fostering community engagement by opening its annual fun run to both the UP community and non-UP participants.
Organizers recorded more than 800 participants, with approximately 300 runners registered under the UP category and over 500 under the non-UP category, reflecting the event's growing reach beyond the university. Participants competed in four race categories--3K, 5K, 10K, and 21K–giving runners of varying ages, abilities, and fitness levels the opportunity to take part.
The favorable turnout came despite days of continuous rainfall leading up to the event. While organizers monitored the weather closely, race day brought a welcome break as the morning remained rain-free, allowing participants to enjoy safe and comfortable running conditions.
The festivities continued after the races with the awarding ceremony and raffle draw. Participants had the chance to win a variety of sponsor-supported prizes, including fitness merchandise, wellness and recovery products, discount vouchers, hotel accommodation vouchers, gym membership packages, sports bags, and a Garmin Forerunner 55 smartwatch.
Now in its 15th edition, Run UP continues to grow as an inclusive community event that celebrates fitness, strengthens ties among alumni, and welcomes runners from all walks of life -- whether they are part of the University of the Philippines or simply share a passion for running.
