Angel Locsin opens full grocery community pantry on her birthday

By Cara Emmeline Garcia

Actress Angel Locsin is truly a real-life angel because instead of receiving gifts, she's the one who will be giving them out on her birthday today, April 23.

On Instagram post on the eve of her birthday, Angel announced that she would be opening her very own community pantry for people in need on April 23, at the Titanium Commercial Building, 36 Holy Spirit Drive cor. Don Matias Street, Quezon City.

But unlike the typical table setup, the actress is taking the community pantry to the next level by placing it in a mini-grocery setting so more people and more stocks can be accommodated.

“Bilang pagpupugay sa Bayanihan ng mga Pilipino at sa mga nagtayo ng mga community pantries sa iba't ibang bahagi ng bansa natin, I decided to celebrate my birthday tomorrow by putting up a community pantry,” she said in the caption.

Angel also noted that the volunteers had been tested during the packing, so anyone who decides to pop in the store is safe from the coronavirus disease.

She added, “Anyone is welcome. But please, make sure to follow protocols.

“If you can, please bring your own eco-bag para hindi makadagdag ng basura. Salamat po.”

Community pantries have popped up in the past week after Ana Patricia Non set up her noble initiative in Maginhawa Street in Quezon City by building a two-tiered bamboo cart containing grocery items such as canned goods, vegetables, rice, and other essentials for people in need in her neighborhood.

The movement inspired many Filipinos, including celebrities who started participating in the movement and share the goodwill through their platforms.
