ITZY screams girl power in 'MAFIA in the Morning'

By Cara Emmeline Garcia

K-pop girl group ITZY finally made their return with their latest track, “MAFIA in the Morning,” off their latest new mini-album, “GUESS WHO.”

Their title track likens their confidence to stealing someone's heart and comparing it to the popular mafia game.

The song was composed by LYRE, Park Jin-young, earattack, KASS, and written by Park Jin-young, danke, and LYRE.

The music video mimics that of the song as Ryujin, Yuna, Yeji, Lia, and Chaeryeong wear show-stealing outfits like their all-black ensemble made of latex.

'GUESS WHO' features six songs in total, including its lead track, "Sorry Not Sorry," "Kidding Me," "Wild Wild West," "Shoot," and "Tennis."

In a media conference, the group discussed what fans would expect off their new mini-album and share their new hopes as a K-pop girl group with their comeback.

Member Lia said, “It was the first time that JYP has directed us for a recording. He gave us a lot of advice.

“For instance, when we were inside the recording booth, he suggested we dim the lights so we would be able to concentrate more on delivering our inner feelings.”

Dancer Yeji added, “It is a song about hiding and showing emotions to win the heart of a crush.

“Park Jin-young told us that the public would be able to witness ITZY's growth through our performance this time. I was so thankful to him for encouraging us.”

Described as the “4th Generation IT Girls” by fans, the press also asked how the K-pop girl group could send messages of hope to their generation.

Ryujin answered, “I think confidence and outspokenness are the characters of our generation, and we have been relaying relevant messages through our song since our debut.

“I think this helped us interact with millennials and Generation Z.”

Chaeryeong added, “We all belong to the same generation and share similar worries. And we hope we can pass our positive energy to people through our music and performances.”

To celebrate the release of their album, ITZY will have a live question and answer session at Twitter's Blueroom on Sunday, May 2, at 5:00 p.m.

In preparation for the event, the K-pop girl group encourages all their fans, called MIDZY, to send in their questions while using the hashtags #TwitterBlueroom, #AskITZY, #ITZY, and #ITZY_GUESSWHO.

Before the music video release, ITZY broke their own personal record by surpassing 260,000 stock pre-orders for their new mini-album 'GUESS WHO.'

On Wednesday, April 28, the record-breaking feat was made as the amount surpassed their previous mini-album “Not Shy,” which recorded 200,000 stock pre-orders ahead of its release last summer.
