Rapper Ez Mil joins Virgin Music Label and Artist Services

By Bong Godinez

Filipino-American rapper Ez Mil has signed up with Virgin Music Label and Artist Services.

Ez's handler FFP Records and Management made the short announcement on Facebook and Instagram late yesterday, May 11.

Virgin Music Label and Artist Services was launched in February 2021 by Universal Music Group (UMG) as a global division serving independent artists and labels “inspired and influenced by the spirit and ethos of the iconic Virgin Records label.”

Virgin Records was the famed British independent record label co-founded by high-profile entrepreneur Richard Branson.

The label, which was bought by EMI in 1992 and UMG in 2012, was home to artists including Janet Jackson, Paula Abdul, Devo, Lenny Kravitz, and Sex Pistols.

Ez gained fame earlier this year after his performance of his song “Panalo” on Wish Bus USA went viral, amassing millions of views in just a few days after premiering on YouTube on January 29.

That video performance currently has more than 59 million views.

It also became controversial because of its lyrical content stating that Filipino hero Lapulapu was beheaded in the Battle of Mactan in 1521.

Historical records show that Lapulapu survived the skirmish and even emerged victorious against Spanish forces.

The 22-year-old rapper apologized for the inaccuracy but refused to change the questioned verse.

“I do not intend to have a corrected version of the song because I feel like that ruins the integrity that I had within recording it. It blew up because it made people talk, and I will let it stay that way,” said Ez.

Ez, whose real name is Ezekiel Miller, was born in Olongapo City in 1998 and currently lives in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

He is the son of musician Paul Sapiera, who is best remembered for being the lead vocalist of the band Rockstar whose hits in the early 90s include “Mahal Pa Rin Kita” and “Parting Time.”

Ez released two albums in 2020, namely, Act I and Resonances.
