Bruno Mars becomes first artist to have five diamond singles

By Racquel Quieta

Multi-awarded singer-songwriter Bruno Mars adds another feather to his cap this year as he officially becomes the first artist to ever have five diamond singles.

The exceptional feat of the Fil-Am hitmaker was announced on May 22 by the Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA).

Bruno's certifications reached five after his hits “When I Was Your Man” reached 11 million certification units and “That's What I Like” reached 10 million.

Previously, his other songs such as “Just the Way You Are” reached 12 million certification units, “Uptown Funk!” got 11 million and “Grenade” achieved 10 million certification units.

RIAA certified units are measured through the total number of streams and sales, where one permanent digital download counts as one certification unit and 150 on-demand audio and/or video streams count as one certification unit.

Plus, achieving a platinum certification means a song has garnered one million certification units, while a diamond certification means it reached 10,000,000 certification units.

So, Bruno Mars doesn't only have platinum and multi-platinum singles, he has five diamond singles.

RIAA Chairman and CEO Mitch Glazier congratulated Bruno on his one-of-a-kind achievement, noting that so far in music history, there have only been 60 Diamond Single Awards given and Bruno has five of them.

The “Versace on the Floor” singer took to Twitter to celebrate this milestone with his fans.

He tweeted, “Love you Hooligans. Thanks for rockin with me throughout this incredible journey. We've only just begun.”

Congratulations, Bruno Mars! Cheers to more diamond singles in the future.
