Chito Miranda looks back on Parokya ni Edgar's early days

By Bong Godinez

Parokya ni Edgar vocalist Chito Miranda looked back on the band's beginnings in his latest post on Instagram.

The post was accompanied by a black and white photo of the group taken in 1994.

“Nung nagsimula ang Parokya, wala pang camera phones, at black and white pa lahat [ng] photos,” Chito said half-serious, half-jokingly.

“Nasaan ka nung 1994? Kami nasa Club Dredd.”

Club Dredd is the now iconic nightclub that served as a home to many rock bands during the '90s.

The venue encouraged bands to play original songs instead of covers.

Some of the bands that played in Club Dredd that eventually became big include The Youth, Color It Red, Teeth, Put3Ska, Parokya ni Edgar, and the Eraserheads, among many others.

Chito's post elicited both jokes and nostalgia in the comments section.

Neri Naig, Chito's wife, commented, “Nasa Subic, grade 4 pa lang po.”

Actress Angel Locsin, a close friend of Chito, remarked funnily, “Black and white? 80 years old ka na?”

Some fans, however, couldn't help but remember those simpler days.

“Nasa PSBA Manila, after class watch ng show sa Club Dredd,” said one follower.

“Saya dyan sa Club Dredd wohoo, pure talent lahat ng tugtugan,” quipped another.

“Una ko kayong napanood sa UP Diliman naka crossdressing pa kayo then wala pa kong cellphone. I only have my memories as souvenir,” recalled one follower.

Parokya ni Edgar is composed of Chito Miranda, Buwi Meneses, Darius Semaña, Gab Chee Kee, Dindin Moreno, and Vinci Montaner.

The band has been together since 1993 and remains one of the most active bands today.

Not all bands though managed to stick together, though. Take a look at some of the controversial band breakups that shocked fans:
