Volleyball star-turned-actor John Vic De Guzman was recognized anew for his contribution to sports.

The 27-year-old Kapuso was named Outstanding Sportsman of the Year at the third edition of the Laguna Excellence Awards.

John Vic, who lived in Laguna in his early years, is part of the Philippine national team volleyball squad.

He played for the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (CSB) in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), helping the school win the title in Season 92 in 2016.

John Vic also won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award that same season.

“Kahit saan mang laban, patuloy ko pong ipagmamalaki na ako ay taga-Calamba! Sa Laguna po ako nagsimulang mangarap kasama ang mga taong naunang nagtiwala,” John Vic said about his latest award.

“Para po ito sa pangarap ng bawat balibolistang tulad ko na laking larong-kalye at anak ng One Day Leagues - para sa atin ang award na ito!

“Patuloy tayong mangangarap at magtatagumpay! Maraming, maraming salamat po!”

In April, John Vic was recognized by his alma mater for his contribution to sports and the community.

Outside the court, John Vic dabbles in acting as part of GMA's roster of talents.

John Vic's recent TV project was the primetime romantic-comedy series Owe My Love top-billed by Lovi Poe and Benjamin Alves.
