Nesthy Petecio wins a silver medal for Team Philippines, the second medal of the country in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics today, August 3.

Petecio lost in the gold medal match of the women's featherweight division against Japan's hometown pride, Sena Irie.

The last time the country won a medal in the boxing competition in the Olympics was 25 years ago, when Onyok Velasco bagged the silver medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

Last Sunday, August 1, Eumir Marcial knocked out Arman Darchinyan of Armenia in the men's middleweight division, securing him of a bronze medal.

Marcial would secure at least a silver medal if he beats Ukranian boxer Oleksandr Khyzhniak in the semifinal round on August 5.

Before Nesthy stepped into the ring today, fellow boxer Carlo Paalam defeated Uzbekistan's Shakhobidin Zoirov in the quarterfinal round of the men's flyweight division.

He joins Petecio and Marcial who have both secured a medal in the Olympics for Team Philippines.

Right after Carlo's win, he quickly became a top trending topic on Twitter Philippines with Pinoys congratulating him for his win.

Hidilyn Diaz broke the Philippines' gold medal drought in the Olympics by winning the country's first-ever gold medal.

After 97 years, the Philippines scored its first gold after Hidilyn outlifted her competitors in the women's 55kg category weightlifting event.

This is also the first time in 89 years that Team Philippines will bring home multiple medals from the Olympic Games. The last time the Philippines finished with multiple medals was in the Los Angeles 1932 Olympic Games.

Meanwhile, here are the other heroic athletes competing in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
