Marlo Mortel admits he has put aside his dream to become a successful music artist when acting opportunites started pouring in.
"That's the main reason I entered showbiz talaga, sumali ako ng singing competitions hanggang sa na-discover ako ni Kuya Germs at napunta ako sa Walang Tulugan With Master Showman.
"Yun talaga ang gusto ko [maging kilalang music artist]. It's just an accident na napunta ako sa acting," said Marlo in a virtual media conference prepared for him by Polyeast Records recently.
He added, "Yung music medyo napunta sa side, but I never really let it go.
"Hindi naman siya na-set aside. Hindi ko lang na-practice or na-pursue yung talagang gusto ko, which is to be successful in my career sa singing and songwriting."
Now that he's back from a short vacation from showbiz, Marlo wants to focus more on his music career.
He explained, "Kasi, I'm still finding who I am as a music artist, e.
"Ayaw ko na nung parang all over the place where I do singing, hosting, acting, and everything else.
"It's okay kasi mas maganda kapag marami tayong alam.
"Pero ngayon kasi, I'm really focusing my energy sa music."
Marlo shows off his passion for music on his new single titled "Bituin"
Marlo revealed about his inspiration behind his second single this year, "I wrote this song for my best friend who now lives in Vietnam.
"We have always found peace in nature. It's all about noticing that light amid the darkness.
"You know the feeling you get, when at the end of a busy day or hen life throws a lot to you, you look up to the sky and you'd feel better.
"Stars give hope and sort of calmness to us human beings.”
The 28-year-old artist , who took a break from showbiz because of anxiety, finds hope, peace and happiness through music.
“Music played a huge factor. Because through songwriting and music, I get to let out all my thoughts and emotions. It is a natural therapy for me as an artist,” Marlo said.
He also mentioned that his ew single "Bituin" was a portrayal of all the real-life struggles that he conquered last year.
Like his favorite line from the song: "Bumagsak dito sa lupa, padama ng 'yong ginhawa, pailawin mo ang 'yong dalang pag-asa. Patikim naman ng nawawalang hiwaga..."
He further stressed about his new single, "This is the first song that I consider as the real me, who am I as an artist.”
Marlo also thanked his new record label for supporting his plans on his career.
He said, "With PolyEast I was really finding or looking for myself as an artist.
"And talagang I don't know maybe the universe conspired, dito ako napunta, which I'm really grateful for because they let me be really who I am.
"They support my music, they support my songwriting and my vision.
"Yung 'Mahina' kasi parang nandoon pa ako sa side ng Marlo 1.0.
"Pero this time, this is really the new me, as an artist. And I hope everybody sees the change and accept it and also followed the music.”
