Manny Pacquiao congratulates Pinoy athletes for historic Tokyo Olympics campaign

By Racquel Quieta

Manny Pacquiao pays tribute to all the Filipino athletes who competed in the recently concluded Tokyo Olympics.

In an Instagram post, Manny shared a photo collage of our Pinoy athletes and captioned it, “Congratulations to all the Filipino athletes for their excellent performance in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games! We salute your commitment and determination to bring honor to our country. Mabuhay! ”

This year's Olympic Games marks the Philippines' best campaign so far as we finished as the best performing Southeast Asian nation, after achieving our biggest medal haul since the Los Angeles Olympics in 1932.

Setting the tone for the Philippine Team's stellar performance at the Tokyo Olympics is Hidilyn Diaz, who won the country's first-ever gold medal in the women's 55-kilogram weightlifting event.

The national boxing team also proved to be a force to be reckoned with as they brought home three Olympic medals.

Nesthy Petecio made history as the first Filipina Olympic boxing medalist after winning the silver medal in the women's featherweight division.

Carlo Paalam also bagged the silver medal in the men's flyweight division, while Eumir Marcial won the bronze medal in the men's middleweight class.

And speaking of boxing, Manny Pacquiao is set to immortalize his name this year as the eight-division world champion takes on the undefeated WBC and IBF welterweight champion, Errol Spence, Jr., in 'Pacquiao vs. Spence JR.: Generational Showdown.'

The highly anticipated fight will be held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, on August 21, Saturday (US Time).

You can watch it on August 22, Sunday on GMA-7 at 11:00 a.m., and tune in to it on radio via GMA's flagship AM station Super Radyo DZBB at 9:00 a.m.
