Onyok Velasco

As reward for his silver medal win at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, Onyok Velasco has been gifted with his very own roast chicken store in Quezon City.

Mansueto "Onyok" Velasco Jr., one of the most decorated Filipino boxers during his amateur boxing years, has received a "surprise gift" from a private company for his 1996 Atlanta Olympics silver medal win.

Chooks-To-Go chain of stores, owned by Bounty Agro Ventures Inc. a private company that specializes in the sale of roast chicken and processed meats, gave Onyok his very own roast chicken store.

This came weeks after the boxing champ bemoaned in a July 30-24 Oras report that not all of the rewards promised to him during his time came into being, including the P2.5 million cash pledge from Congress and the supposed scholarship grants for his two kids from the Philippine Navy.

In the same report, the Negros Occidental native also revealed that another pledge came from a businessman, who promised him a lifetime allowance of P10,000 a month. This allowance, Onyok claimed, stopped coming after only a year.

The issue of "broken promises" came into light after Hidilyn Diaz's historic Olympic gold-winning win in the women's 55 kg category for weightlifting at the Tokyo 2020 Games that inspired a "windfall" of cash rewards and pledges from several companies and public officials.

In its Instagram post, the roast chicken brand said that Onyok's store will be located on Litex Road, "close to his home in Violago Homes, Parkwood Hills Subdivision" in Quezon City.

As a bonus, the company has also thrown in an additional P100,000 cash reward, so that Onyok and his wife can go on a belated honeymoon in Boracay.
