After years of being close friends and labelmates, SHINee's Key and Girls' Generation's Taeyeon finally worked together for Key's pre-release single “Hate that…”

SHINee's Key is all set for his monumental solo comeback this September as he drops the music video of his pre-release single “Hate that…” on Monday, August 30.

According to a press release, the R&B song--which features Girls' Generation member Taeyeon--“describes the hope that the other person does not get along well after the breakup.”

The chorus goes, “And I hate that, hate that you're happy without me / And I pray, and I pray I want you to be painful as much as I do, baby / I can feel the breakup falling apart alone / And I hate that, hate that you're happy without me / And I pray, and I pray I want you to regret more than I do / If you loved me, I just hate that you're happy.”

The emotional lyrics are translated in the music video, with Key and Taeyeon showcasing their perfect harmony and vocal chemistry.

SHINee's fans were very supportive of Key's latest solo endeavor, showering him and Taeyeon with lots of positive feedback and making the hashtags #Keyisback and #KEY_HateThat trend on Twitter.

In his VLive broadcast, Key revealed that he will be having a Beyond Live online concert prior to the mini-album's release on September 27.

Key and Taeyeon are very close friends, having debuted as K-pop idols just nine months apart--Taeyeon with Girls' Generation on August 5, 2007, and Key with SHINee on May 25, 2008. Both are also regular cast members of variety show Amazing Saturday and ambassadors of K-beauty giant Olive Young.

Taeyeon isn't new to collaborating with SHINee.

In fact, Key is the third member she has worked with.

She did a duet with Jonghyun titled “Breath” in 2014 and again in 2017 for “Lonely.”

Early this year, she was featured in Taemin's “If I Could Tell You” from his mini-album 'Advice.'

SHINee, meanwhile, made their much-awaited comeback in February 2021 with the release of their seventh studio album 'Don't Call Me' and its repackaged version 'Atlantis' in April.

They also released the Japanese mini-album SUPERSTAR last July.
