WATCH: Documentary shows what went into Coldplay and BTS' 'My Universe'

By Ron Lim

It looks like Chris Martin and BTS have really hit it off, judging from the “Inside My Universe” documentary released last night.

The almost 13-minute video was posted on the BANGTANTV YouTube channel and chronicles the two days the Coldplay frontman spent in South Korea recording the song with the group.

Chris shared in the video that the genesis for “My Universe” began more than a year ago when he got wind of BTS wanting to do a song with Coldplay. After building a demo out of the words “My universe,” Chris then shared that he then undertook a “stressful” journey to go to South Korea and record the song with BTS.

In the documentary, both BTS and Chris Martin underscored the similarities their two bands have with each other, such as the similar messages of togetherness that they deliver in their songs.

Both groups also complimented each other's work, with Chris noting the “unusual structures and different melodies” BTS have in their songs. Meanwhile, BTS described Coldplay as “legendary performers” and expressed their disbelief at actually getting to work with them.

As of this writing, the documentary has more than 6 million views.

Aside from the documentary, the group also released today a Supernova 7 Mix and acoustic version of the song. A music video for the song is also set to be released in the future, with Dave Meyers set to direct. He has previously directed music videos for Drake, Saweetie, and Ariana Grande.

Since its release, “My Universe” has topped the US iTunes song chart and is expected to have a prominent debut on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
