Ricky Davao wins Best Supporting Actor at the 36th Star Awards for Movies

Veteran actor and director Ricky Davao bagged a major award at the 36th Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) Star Awards for Movies on Sunday, September 26.

The Nagbabagang Luha director was recognized as the Movie Supporting Actor of the Year for the 2019 Cinemalaya entry, Fuccbois.

In his acceptance speech, Ricky expressed his gratitude to the PMPC for the award whom he considers his source of inspiration to be better at his craft.

“This is a first na tumatanggap ako ng award sa panahon ng pandemya, at para itong Zoom meeting but really, Philippine Movie Press Club, Star Awards, pagkatapos ng dalawang dekada, napansin ninyo ako, maraming maraming salamat.

"Ang award na ito ay maituturing kong pang-boost ng immune system ko, nakakataba po ng puso, sobra po akong masaya rito at nagbibigay ito ng hope na ipagpatuloy ko pa ang aking passion, ang pagiging artista ko at ang paggawa ng pelikula.”

In the indie film, Ricky played Mayor Fernan, a gay sex maniac who is involved in a sexual relationship with aspiring actors Ace Policarpio (Royce Cabrera) and Mico Ramos (Kokoy De Santos).

Royce is part of the cast of GMA afternoon drama Nagbabagang Luha where Ricky is the director.

Kokoy, on the other hand, stars in the prequel weekly series, Pepito Manaloto: Ang Unang Kuwento, playing the young Patrick Generoso.

Ricky first received the Best Supporting Actor award for Fuccbois in the 2019 Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival and in the 2020 FAMAS Awards.
