Robert Pattinson's portrayal of the caped superhero was described as “most tortured” and “out of control.”
Fans got a glimpse of actor Robert Pattinson's take on the caped crusader in the latest trailer of The Batman on Saturday.
Directed by Matt Reeves (Let Me In, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), this latest installment in the Dark Knight saga offers a grittier and darker version as compared to past Batman films.
Initial publicity stated that Pattinson's Batman is the “most tortured” and with the actor himself describing his role as “out of control.”
The English actor who gained fame for portraying Edward Cullen in The Twilight film series, said, “The delineation between when he's Batman and when he's Bruce is not so clear as other iterations ... I kind of really like this idea it's a little bit out of control.
“He hasn't completely defined what Batman is, but he gets lost in it. Whenever he's putting it on every night, he's not sleeping, and he's becoming this quite sort of odd creature.”
The movie promises to feature known Batman foes such as Catwoman and The Penguin.
Likewise, the latest trailer showed Paul Dano (12 Years a Slave, Love & Mercy) assuming the role of Batman's nemesis The Riddler albeit in a creepier, more sinister interpretation.
Like most movies in the past two years, The Batman was plagued with production problems because of the pandemic caused by COVID-19.
From its original June and October 2021 showing, The Batman is now earmarked to hit theaters on March 4, 2022.
