GMA Network dominates weekend ratings nationwide



GMA Network marked another winning performance as it continues its nationwide ratings lead over the weekend, according to data from the industry’s widely trusted ratings service provider Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.
 
Based on household data recorded in National Urban Philippines last December 8 (based on overnight readings), GMA posted a total day average household audience share of 32.5 percent; 4.6 points ahead of ABS-CBN’s 27.9 percent and 13.5 points higher than TV5’s 19 percent.
 
The Kapuso Network, likewise, delivered the most watched programming line-up last Sunday, December 9 (based on overnight data), after it registered 44.2 percent household audience share; 19.7 points ahead of ABS-CBN’s 24.5 percent and 32.4 points up from TV5’s 11.8 percent.
 
Leading the way for GMA was the highly anticipated Pacquiao-Marquez 4 boxing special, which landed on the top spot of the overall top 30 weekend programs nationwide. The bout, which aired Dec 9, recorded a 37.1 percent average household rating.
 
In the list of overall top 30 weekend programs (with specials) nationwide, 16 were from GMA. The Pacquiao-Marquez bout was at number one followed by the award-winning drama anthology Magpakailanman, which featured the touching story of Eat Bulaga’s Little Miss Philippines 2012 Ryzza Mae Dizon. Magpakailanman posted 26.7 percent as against the 20.9 percent of ABS-CBN’s Maalaala Mo Kaya and TV-5’s Talentadong Pinoy’s 9.4 percent.
 
Other GMA programs that made it to the list include Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, Pepito Manaloto: Ang Tunay na Kwento, Imbestigador, GMA Flash Report (Pacquiao Marquez 4), Eat Bulaga, Kap’s Amazing Stories, Celebrity Bluff, Ang Huling Pagtutuos: Pacquiao Marquez 4, Wattajob, Extra Challenge, 24 Oras Weekend, Tunay na Buhay, IBilib, and HOT T.V. Hindi Ordinaryong Tsismis.
 
GMA subscribes to Nielsen TV Audience Measurement along with 22 other paying subscribers including another local major television network, TV5, Faulkner Media, CBN Asia, 15 advertising agencies, and 4 regional clients.
 
Nielsen has a sample size of 1,190 homes in Mega Manila versus Kantar Media's 770 homes. Nielsen also has a nationwide sample size of 2,000 homes compared to the lower sample size of 1,370 utilized by Kantar Media.
