Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo has secured a place in the spotlight after her pageant journey now that she's a Kapuso actress, but the beauty queen admitted she had other plans that would've led her to a very different road.

Rabiya revealed in a GMA Digital exclusive interview that one of her “options” after Miss Universe was to work as a physical therapist in the US.

She said, “But [people] did advise me to think about it, 'cause… iba din kasi 'yung, you know, tahimik 'yung life. And, at the same time, I can practice my studies, my course, by being a physical therapist.”

However, she made a leap of faith and took a chance in trying to build a showbiz career.

“I told my mom na I think I wanna give it one more try this time. Wala na din namang mawawala sa akin,” she said.

“And everytime siguro na nahihirapan ako, everytime nare-remind ako sa lowest point ng life ko, iniisip ko lang palagi na ang laking sacrifice ko just to be here and I cannot just give up," she explained.

Rabiya had been working as a licensed physical therapist and wanted to pursue further studies prior to joining Binibining Pilipinas and being crowned Miss Universe Philippines in October 2020,

But it seems like Rabiya was made for the spotlight. After appearing in several TV shows, Rabiya officially signed a contract with GMA Network in November 2021.

Among her recent GMA appearances include Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho's Gabi ng Lagim IX and an episode of Wish Ko Lang.

Rabiya is set to star in the second season of GMA's action drama Agimat ng Agila, to air in 2022.
