Miss Universe Philippines to match Typhoon Odette donations made through remittance app

By Ron Lim

The Miss Universe Philippines Organization is mobilizing and calling on its followers on social media to assist with the relief and recovery efforts being conducted in the aftermath of Typhoon Odette.

On its Facebook page, the Miss Universe Philippines Organization put up two posts - one in English and one in Filipino - announcing that they would match any donations made with the Sendwave app, a remittance app that the organization recently partnered with.

In the post, the organization said that using the promo code MUPH will get users USD$10 that they can donate either partially or in full and the organization will match it.

The call for donations comes after an earlier one was made after the Miss Universe Organization revealed that Miss Universe Philippines 2021 Beatrice Luigi Gomez's family was trapped in their homes as the typhoon battered Cebu. The earlier call provided options for cash and in-kind donations.

The Facebook post also said that interviews with Beatrice would be postponed as she would be heading to Cebu to help as soon as she ends her quarantine.

Beatrice also shared that she witnessed how “ghastly” things became during a Facetime call with her mother and sisters. She also called on people to assist the Simply Share Foundation and the Naval Reserve Center of Eastern Visayas with the recovery efforts.

Miss World Philippines 2021 Tracy Maureen Perez also shared the Miss World Philippines Organization's relief initiative on her Instagram account. Andi Eigenmann also provided updates on Siargao and the surrounding islands on her Instagram account.
