Writers speak

iGMA got to chat with Lupin’s team of writers (Headwriter: Suzette Doctolero and the Creative Team: RJ Nuevas, Jules Katanyag, Zita Garganera, and Kit Villanueva-Langit). We unraveled interesting details to share with you. Question: Why do a remake of Lupin? Because it’s recognizable, it’s been around since the 1800s, since the turn of the century, and the Japanese version was also aired in GMA several years ago, and rater pa rin. So there’s a recall; there’s a captive market already. Q: What kind of look are you visualizing for the series? We want a stylized look. For instance, Richard (Gutierrez) is not a regular crook – he’s very suave and there’s a lot of high-tech action. It’s cool. The younger set would appreciate it. But of course, there’s also a touch of drama, like how he lost his mom, and this is in sync with the genre of the series, which is adventure. Q: What can you say about the effect of stealing on kids? What if they’ll think it’s okay to steal? Lupin’s story is pegged on redemption of his past, although take note that this is not an excuse to steal. The story will explain and explore his background to give an explanation why he is behaving that way. Q: Any personal favorites for the characters? Aside from Lupin, alam mong buhay when a character does something unexpected that contributes to the story. Janno (Gibbs)'s character, Inspector Clavio, did that. Q: What’s the toughest challenge in writing the script? Madugo mag-isip ng heists! For instance, week two of the story took us three weeks to write, primarily because every heist has to be extremely detailed, but still easy enough to be understood by the viewers. Q: What aspects of Arsine Lupin and Lupin III did you get? The original Lupin was a playboy. That’s primarily what we got from the French version. Some characters’ names have been retained as well. But otherwise, it’s purely Pinoy already. Catch Lupin weeknights during GMA Telebabad. For more updates, visit iGMA.tv everyday! Get in touch with Richard and Janno through Fanatxt!
