Enchong Dee's legal team released an official statement clarifying that their client did not to evade arrest.

In a statement released by Castillo Laman Tan Pantaleon & San Jose law firm, which Enchong posted on his Instagram on February 1, it explained that the actor was fulfilling his professional and personal obligations the past days and that he “has not made any attempts to evade arrest.”

Over the weekend, a warrant of arrest was reportedly released against the actor in connection to the P1 billion cyber libel complaint filed against him by DUMPER Party-list Representative Claudine Bautista-Lim on August 23, 2021.

The actor, however, voluntarily surrendered himself to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Tuesday, February 1 and filed for a PhP48,000 bail.

Dee's surrender, according to the statement, “was a show of respect for the rule of law."

It also noted, “Moving forward, Enchong will take the appropriate and necessary legal steps to defend himself against the pending lawsuit.”

The actor's legal fiasco stemmed his now deleted Twitter post in August 2021, where he allegedly implied that the money used for the lavish wedding of Rep. Bautista that the money used for her “lavish” Balesin island wedding came from funds “for commuters and drivers,” which her party-list represents.

After deleting his post, Enchong apologized for having a “lapse in judgment.”

Aside from the him, the lawmaker also filed complaint against celebrities Agot Isidro, Ogie Diaz, and Pokwang, who also posted their supposed disappointment on Bautista's wedding on social media. However, they were all acquitted and only Enchong was indicted, based on the resolution released on November 16.
