GMA programs and personalities receive recognitions at 6th GEMS Awards

GMA Network continues to showcase excellence in the field of arts and public service as several Kapuso programs and personalities gained recognition in the virtual awarding ceremony of the 6th GEMS Awards held on Thursday, March 10.

In this event, GMA-7 was awarded as TV Station of the Year while the Best News Program award was given to the network's flagship nightly newscast 24 Oras.

GMA News pillar and multi-awarded broadcast journalist Mel Tiangco won the Best Newscaster while Atom Araullo bagged the Best TV Program Host for his show The Atom Araullo Specials, which was also recognized as Best TV Program (Opinion/Documentary).

Leading the entertainment awardees were Alden Richards, Aiko Melendez, Nico Antonio, Jaclyn Jose, Dingdong Dantes, and Michael V.

Alden won Best Performance in a Lead Role for the TV series The World Between Us, while Aiko bagged the Best Performance in a Lead Role (Single Performance) in the “Dalawa ang Aking Ina” episode of the weekly drama-anthology Tadhana. The Best TV Program (Reality/Talent Search) award went to the singing competition The Clash.

For the film category, Nico and Jaclyn were recognized as Best Performance in a Supporting Role (Male and Female) for the films Big Night! and The Housemaid, respectively.

The Kapuso Primetime King, on the other hand, won the Best Performance in a Lead Role (Male) for the movie A Hard Day.

The Natatanging Hiyas ng Sining sa Telebisyon (Highest Honors for TV) award went to comedy genius Michael V. for his dedication as an actor, director, and writer.

The Guild of Educators, Mentors, and Students (GEMS)-Hiyas ng Sining is an organization that gives recognition to people who showcase excellence in the field of arts such as film, television, radio, and journalism.
