GMA News pillar Mike Enriquez set to make his comeback on March 28

By Aedrianne Acar

GMA News pillar Mike Enriquez is set to make his return on March 28 to continue his commitment to provide unbiased and credible news coverage.

Starting Monday morning, Filipinos can catch Mike on his Super Radyo dzBB program. He will also be reunited with the top anchors of GMA News flagship program 24 Oras in the evening.

The award-winning news personality will also continue hosting his Saturday afternoon investigative docudrama Imbestigador.

Earlier, March 25, Mike met with the entertainment media and talked about his recovery after his kidney transplant in December 2021.

According to Enriquez, prior to this medical procedure he had to undergo dialysis three to four times a week.

“'Yung pinagdaanan ko mahirap," he said.

"Aside from the procedure itself the kidney transplant, merong three months na mandatory isolation period for transplant patient. And the purpose of that is to avoid the rejection and infection, kasi 'yung mga kidney transplant patient immunocompromise sila. 'Tapos tulad ko may mga comorbidities pa ako, senior citizen, diabetic etc.”

Despite the challenges, Mike wanted to share with everyone to keep their faith, just like what he did during the difficult moments he went through in the past months.

“Ang maii-share ko lang sa mga dadaan sa pinagdaanan ko is keep the faith. Never lose faith.” he stressed.

“I also had a heart by-pass operation in 2018. Sabi ko you need two things: you need prayer and you need humor. 'Pag wala ka prayer [at] humor, 'pag masyado ka seryoso sa buhay mo, walang mangyayari sa'yo. And so far, it has worked for me."

Learning from his personal experience, Mike is determined to pay it forward by helping our fellow Filipinos to make medical care more accessible to everyone who needs it, especially to those who are dealing with kidney problems.

The Kapuso news anchor explained, “I made a realization na mahirap ang buhay, lalo na doon sa mga hindi maka-afford ng ganitong medical care.

“As a matter of fact, I was in touch with a couple of friends who are also kidney transplant patients and they were thinking of organizing a group whose advocacy would be to make dialysis and kidney procedures affordable to Filipinos.”

“Maraming Pilipino na walang kalaban-laban, simply because wala silang pera. And 'pag pinagdaanan mo 'yung pinagdaanan ko, mare-realize mo how good God was to me and how I should return [the gift of another life] and how should I pay it forward like they say.”

Eleksyon 2022 coverage

Aside from returning to his award-winning TV and radio shows, Enriquez is also gearing up for the election coverage of GMA News and Public Affairs, including the Presidential debate on April 30.

He admitted during the interview that he prayed to be ready and well enough for this huge responsibility.

He recalled, “This is one of my prayers to the Lord. I kept telling Him, 'Lord, please make me well enough in time for the election coverage.' And he answered my prayer. Ipinagdasal ko yan. One thing I learned walang hindi makukuha sa dasal. The power of prayer, ibang klase talaga.”

Mike, who holds the distinction as the first & only Filipino to win the Asian TV Awards' Best News Anchor, also has this reminder for every Filipino, before they cast their votes on May 9-- keep in mind GMA-7's election advocacy "Dapat Totoo."

The award-winning news anchor stated, “Well, dapat totoo for me means that as a voter kung ano 'yung talagang totoong na nasa saloobin ko, 'di ba?

“Kung ano talagang nasa puso ko, 'tsaka iniisip ko na iboto, na piliin at pagkatiwalaan ng boto ko ibibigay sa May.”

He added, “Sana lahat ng Pilipino, e, sumunod doon and for once naman e, 'yun ang maging gabay sa pagpili nila.”
