Alden Richards goes from leading man to certified crooner


Kapuso leading man Alden Richards, fondly called “Pambansang Dimples” by fans is nowready to serenade his way into ladies’ hearts as he releases his debut album. The album, which includes covers of memorable hits like Shamrock’s Haplos, Rey Valera’s Naaalala Ka, Itchyworms’ Akin Ka Nalang, among others, is a testament to Alden’s young romantic side.

GMANetwork.com caught up with the handsome actor-singer at the press conference for his self-titled album. He talked about his new endeavor and shared his thoughts on music.

When asked to describe his album, the Mundo Mo’y Akin star replied, “All of the songs in the album are ballads. Technically, they’re low-keyed and pang-crooner lang talaga ‘yung songs for this album. Sana magustuhan nila. It’s basically for all the girls out there. May 101 facts about me plus 7 songs you should listen to!”

His single, Haplos instantly rose to the top of the MyMusicStore charts and is now a part of the soundtrack of Mundo Mo’y Akin. Alden shared more about the song, stating “’Yung Haplos is a song revival from Shamrock. ‘Yun ‘yung carrier single ng album ko. Siya ‘yung very first song na nirecord ko for this album. ‘Nung ginawa ko siya, hindi talaga ako nahirapan. I really felt the song and ang sarap niyang kantahin. I’m just so happy and blessed na maganda ang kinalabasan ng songs.”

Haplos is also Alden Richards’ first music video. He described the experience as fun and light. He got to team up with his Mundo Mo’y Akin leading lady, Louise delos Reyes in the music video.

We asked Alden about his experience in shooting with Louise and he said, “It’s fun kasi I’ve known Louise for two years now since my first project with her. ‘Yung comfort level namin, on the rise eh. We never fail to surprise each other. It’s fun to work with Louise all the time.”

He also mentioned that Sa Aking Tabi, an original song composed by Vince Katindoy, is his favorite song from his album. “I really like the song. It’s very light. It’s not dramatic at all. It’s saying something to someone na you’re okay with me by your side. It’s my favorite song from my album, along with Can’t Find No Reason,” explained Alden.

Alden Richards’ album zoomed to the top of music charts after only a week after his release. Grateful for his blessings, Alden shared, “I’m very contented with what’s happening right now in my life. I’m so happy and blessed. Siguro this is the reward of not asking for too much.”
