Miss Universe Philippines reveals new crown, 'La Mer en Majeste'

By Ron Lim

Aside from representing the country in the Miss Universe pageant, the winner of the upcoming Miss Universe Philippines pageant to be held on April 30 will be wearing the newly-revealed “La Mer en Majeste” crown.

In its two latest posts on its Instagram account, the Miss Universe Philippines organization presented a short clip and a photo of the new Miss Universe Philippines crown, explaining that it draws its inspiration from and is an homage to the sea. The crown utilizes several South Sea pearls, the country's national gem and “a radiant symbol of the harmonious relationship between man and nature, capturing the very spirit of the Filipinos.”

"La Mer en Majeste” is the pageant's second crown, as it has been using the “Filipina” crown that was first revealed in 2020. The “Filipina” crown had an estimated worth of PhP5 million and included diamonds, gold South Sea pearls, a sapphire, ruby, and a topaz.

While this new crown is an homage to the sea, at the time of its reveal, the Miss Universe Philippines organization shared that the different parts of the “Filipina” crown had a meaning. The sapphire, ruby, and topaz of the crown represent the Philippine flag, while the pearls represent “creativity, intelligence, optimism and fear of God.”

Meanwhile, the diamonds are meant to stand for the smiles of the people that the winning candidate will encounter during her reign, while the swirl of leaves represents the different forms of success that the Filipina seeks while keeping Filipino values in her heart.

On coronation night, one of the top 32 contestants will win the “La Mer en Majeste” crown, with one of the competitors being Kapuso star Michelle Dee. Michelle has placed in the top three of challenges like the casting video challenge and the swimsuit challenge. Michelle was also given the Catwalk Queen award.
