By Aedrianne Acar

Preparations are well underway for the big international partnership between Philippine media giant GMA Network and one of the top broadcast networks in South Korea, SBS (Seoul Broadcasting System) --a development that will bring to the Philippines the reality-game show Running Man.

Contract signing held last February 2020 between GMA Entertainment Group and SBS Korea

Back in February 2020, right before the pandemic, GMA-7 and SBS Korea signed the contract for the co-production deal--a huge milestone, because this will be the first time that a Philippine TV network was given the opportunity to enter into a partnership with one of South Korea's biggest networks.

GMA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Atty. Felipe L. Gozon expressed in an interview his excitement about this partnership. Atty. Gozon stated then, “We are very delighted to partner with a great institution in content. We know that Running Man is a top-rating program not only in South Korea, but in other countries as well. And we hope to make it a top-rater, too, here in the Philippines.”

What is Running Man?

Running Man, which debuted back in 2010 in South Korea, is a show where a group of celebrities compete in outrageous missions to win prizes and avoid penalties.

Seven cast members go all out, carrying the mindset: 'play to win' and 'play for fun', as they complete games and accomplish different challenges in several landmarks and destinations in South Korea.

Further increasing its popularity, countless Korean stars and idols have graced the show, including BTS, BLACKPINK, Big Bang, Gong Yoo, and Lee Min-ho.

What's more, Hollywood superstars like Jackie Chan, Tom Cruise, Jack Black, Ryan Reynolds, and Henry Cavill have also appeared as guests, which widened the show's appeal across the globe.

In fact, American financial and business news website Business Insider (now called Insider) hailed Running Man as the top non-American show in the world in 2016.

With its exciting format, unpredictable missions that bring out the competitive spirit of hosts and guests, Filipinos will surely be entertained and will definitely be hooked!

Running Man's longevity has long been cemented, since it has several franchises in other countries like China, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Soon GMA Network will bring to life a local version that will whet the Pinoys' appetite for fun and laughter.

Now the big question: Who are the multi-talented artists that will be part of the Philippines' biggest reality-game show in 2022?

Any guess, mga Kapuso?
