Enzo Pineda on being a method actor: “Talagang in character ako everyday.”

At the Dormitoryo pictorial, a spunkier and edgier Enzo Pineda stood before us. Clad in a leather jacket, dark jeans and sporting a new hairstyle with blonde streaks, the StarStruck alumnus oozed with bad boy appeal. What made him change his boy-next-door image?

We asked Enzo about his new hair color, which amazingly suits his features. He laughed and said, “It’s awkward. Usually, black lang yung hair ko or dark brown. I’ve never dyed it in a blonde color before. Hindi ako sanay, but I guess it’s okay. It’s a new look and I feel new in a positive way, so I like it.”

Apparently, he colored his hair for his role as Burn Chavez in the upcoming suspense series, Dormitoryo. His dedication for his craft shows because he is willing to alter his appearance for the job.

“In our job, we have to make sacrifices for the show. Like me, I have to color my hair every week, but it’s washable. It’s for the love of the show. I have to work with the character kasi ‘yan ‘yung dinesign nila for me, so I have to be that character,” he declared.

We then asked Enzo what his character, Burn Chavez is like.

According to him, “Siya ‘yung heartthrob sa buong school, so everybody wants to be with him, or wants to have him as their boyfriend. Ako ‘yung tinitilian. Yes, ang saya ng role ko, but at the same time I have my own problems. Each of us may mga sikreto na tinatago.”

What makes this role different from the previous ones he has done? Is this more challenging than his past roles?

“My character here is different kasi heartthrob, overconfident, hindi marunong mag-sorry, parang laging tama. For me, may nuances from my past characters kasi mysterious at ‘pag nakaharap sa tao, I put on a façade. Nagshishift yung mga emotions,” he stated.

How did he prepare for this darker, more mysterious character?

“Preparation-wise, I think I have to do more ego exercises para lumabas ‘yung yabang. First thing I have to do is ibahin ‘yung physical look ko and how I carry myself. I always list down what makes me cry, what makes me angry,” shared Enzo.

He also added that method acting works for him. Is it not difficult for him to transition from character to character?

“I would like to make it as real as possible because I wanna feel the character. Talagang in character ako everyday. Madadala ka talaga ‘pag sanay ka na sa character mo. Madadala mo talaga outside so let’s see, it’s gonna be fun,” he replied.
