Paul Desiderio accused of domestic abuse by Agatha Uvero

By Ron Lim

Former University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) courtside reporter Agatha Uvero is alleging that she suffered domestic abuse under the hands of Philippine Basketball Association (PBA ) player Paul Desiderio.

In a series of tweets that featured screenshots from the Apple Notes app, Agatha detailed the different ways that Paul was violent towards her, even while she was two months pregnant with his child. Some of the violent acts she alleges was done to her include strangulation, biting, kicking, and throwing her against furniture. According to her, she was pregnant with Paul's child when he strangled and threw her against furniture.

The thread also featured a screenshot of a Facebook Messenger conversation where two people are telling each other to consult a psychiatrist. One of the people in the conversation claimed “pag nalasing ako baka may magawa pako sayo” along with a “promise” that they are not “okay.”

Agatha also explained that while she hates “airing dirty laundry on social media,” she said that the amount of people empowering and enabling Paul's abusive behavior prompted her to speak.

She also said that Paul had been threatening her to do this and would blame her if his athletic career ends because of it, and claimed that she had “proof, pictures, screenshots” to back up her claims.

Agatha then said that while she felt fear doing this, she thought of all the girls in her place and called on men to be held accountable for their actions.

Agatha also absolved Paul's family of any involvement in the abuse she suffered, writing that they had been nothing but kind to her and the “only reason” why she hesitated to do this.
