
Former Senate President Tito Sotto's daughter, Diorella Maria "Lala" Sotto-Antonio has been appointed by President Bongbong Marcos as the chairperson of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).
Lala, a former Quezon City councilor, talked exclusively on 24 Oras as she shared her plans for the MTRCB under her management.
In her interview with Kapuso showbiz reporter Nelson Canlas, Lala stated, “I would like for the general public to be more understanding of the agency.”
“Of course, to promote and encourage more local films, because I know it will help the industry--local films that focus on Filipino values, Filipino family values,” she added. “Local films that will promote and strengthen the culture and history of our country.”
The new MTRCB chairwoman admitted that Senator Grace Poe, who also once served as the head of the agency is her mentor.
She also added that her “spiritual conviction” will matter on her decision-making process.
“I believe in consultative leadership. However, it will be my spiritual conviction that will really help me decide on certain things.” Lala explained.
When asked by Nelson will she be strict as the chairperson of the MTRCB, her immediate response, “I think so.”
Meanwhile, Lala's brother, Gian Sotto won a second term in the May 2022 elections as the vice mayor of Quezon City. She has two other siblings: Romina Frances and actress-singer Ciara.
