Jasmine Curtis-Smith shares the important lesson she learned from the late Cherie Gil

By Aedrianne Acar

Kapuso primetime actress Jasmine Curtis-Smith is among the hundreds of local celebrities paying tribute to the late showbiz legend Cherie Gil.

It was confirmed on August 5 by her nephew, The Fake Life star Sid Lucero, to GMA News that the award-winning actress has already passed away.

In an online interview with GMANetwork.com on Saturday, August 6, Jasmine remembered the important lesson she learned from watching Cherie.

She told GMANetwork.com, “To be such a strong iconic woman, like Miss Cherie Gil, I think for me it's important to see that and to know that a woman like her, walked in our industry.

“And shook our industry, kasi too often, young women, especially in our industry, feel that they cannot say certain things. They cannot act a certain way, they cannot demand for respect.”

Jasmine added, “And Miss Cherie Gil was, who she is and who she was in those moments--as an actress and as herself, as Cherie Gil. So, I think 'yun 'yung pinakababaunin ko, 'yung pagkatao niya--strong, confident, sure of herself. Even maybe when there were moments she was unsure, we have never felt that.

“That's the one take away talagang, when I think of her name, when I imagine her face and parang backtrack everything that she has done in the industry, that's the most empowering thing an actress can take away.”

The World Between Us on Freevee

In other news, Jasmine Curtis-Smith also expressed her excitement that all episodes of her primetime series The World Between Us together with Alden Richards and Tom Rodriguez will be available on Amazon Freevee starting August 7.

The World Between Us (TWBU) is the first Filipino language title in the video streaming platform.

“I'm so excited, I'm very excited! Kasi 'yung mga nakanood na nung first 50 episodes namin noong una siya na-release, ngayon, they can actually finish the whole series and enjoy it 'til the end,” Jasmine said about the exciting news.

“To be the first na Filipino language sa platform na 'yun, siyempre it's a privilege and it's always a great thing na maging pioneer 'di ba?”

What's more, the talented actress is looking forward to working again with TWBU director Dominic Zapata in the future.

She noted, “Definitely, I would work with Direk Dom [Dominic Zapata] again. Kasi si Direk Dom talaga, I think he understands actors and 'yung emotional journey ng mga actors, lalo na ako, alam niya kung nasaan ako bawat araw ng pakiramdam ko bilang Jasmine at bilang Lia.”

“Parang ano ko siya, flag for [makes sound], yes, kailangan makatrabaho ito ulit kasi may pake na siya.”
