Mcoy Fundales

Former Orange and Lemons frontman Mcoy Fundales shares his venture from music to TV writing.

Mcoy Fundales is back with "Ang Forever Ko'y Ikaw" under AltG records.

While his career in music has spanned decades starting with the formation of Orange and Lemons in 1999 where he was a frontman, Mcoy discovered that it's never too late to find new passions.

He was venturing into on-cam TV roles when he found his calling for TV writing.

During the media conference for his new single "Ang Forever Ko'y Ikaw," Mcoy shares, "I started with the band Orange and Lemons. Doon talaga ako nagsimula and I also started a band called Kenyo. On the side I was doing solo projects kasama na doon yung mga on-cam roles then I fell in love with comedy."

He continues, "I worked with Bossing, the late Bert de Leon, and while I was working on-cam sa mga sitcoms, I discovered the joy of scriptwriting. I approached Direk Jojo Nones and Direk Bert de Leon, I said I want to learn how to write for TV. Sabi nila Michael V is looking for a new brainstormer for Pepito Manaloto--fan ako nung show so tamang-tama. I met Bitoy sa isang meeting then I discovered na although late na--gusto ko palang mag-script writing.

Now, Mcoy has been writing for TV shows for eight years, branching out from comedy to reality shows and variety show musical segments.

"I fell in love with the craft, I tried to learn...and I've been doing it now for almost eight years sa GMA from sitcoms tumawid na ako to writing reality competitions. I've also been writing for the longest gag show sa Pilipinas which is Bubble Gang. Tapos ngayon Pepito Manaloto, and I'm writing the musical comedy for All-Out Sundays. Scriptwriting is something I've been doing until I get old, music nandyan naman 'yan so every time I write a new song, I'll continue writing and recording new songs.

Rather than causing conflict, his background in music has actually helped him become a better scriptwriter.

He says, "I like telling stories, akala ko nung una I'll always be telling stories through songs. Sa kanta you have one stanza, two stanzas, very limited. Sa scriptwriting mas maluwag 'eh. Kaya lang ang common sa dalawa, yung timing at rhythm. Dahil I write songs sumakto yung discipline ng pagsusulat ng kanta sa comedy."
