GMA Network's “Tibay ng Pusong Pilipino Telethon” a success

Last November 17, GMA Network held Tibay ng Pusong Pilipino: A GMA Telethon Special to help raise funds for the victims of typhoon Yolanda in the Visayas. The program Sunday All Stars was preempted to give way to the two-and-a-half-hour TV special, where Kapuso stars and news personalities performed in production numbers, answered calls, and repacked goods that were to be delivered to the affected areas.

The Kapuso network's Studios 6 and 7, including the props area connecting the two, served as the show's venues for the telethon, the production numbers, and the repacking of relief goods, respectively.

The program started with a medley of USA for Africa's We Are The World and Michael Jackson's Heal The World, performed by Kuh Ledesma, Cesar Montano, Michael V, Janno Gibbs, Jaya, Jay-R, Tom Rodriguez, Dennis Trillo, Carla Abellana, Mark Bautista, Rachelle Ann Go, Lovi Poe, Jennylyn Mercado, Alden Richards, Aljur Abrenica, Jolina Magdangal, Frencheska Farr, Glaiza De Castro, Aicelle Santos, Maricris Garcia, Jonalyn Viray, Kyla, Kris Lawrence and Julie Ann San Jose.

Bayang Barrios, Janno Gibbs, Jett Pangan, Jaya, Julie Anne San Jose, Kristoffer Martin, Aljur Abrenica, and Mark Bautista also offered an OPM medley comprised of songs that will help uplift the Filipino spirit.

Young Kapuso actors Elmo Magalona, Alden Richards, Kristoffer Martin, Derrick Monasterio, Ruru Madrid, Mikoy Morales, and Ken Chan gave their rendition of the Francis Magalona hit Kaleidoscope World.

Meanwhile, Kapuso primetime king and queen Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera, together with veteran broadcasters Mike Enriquez and Arnold Clavio and GMA News and Public Affairs reporters, gave updates regarding the status of the affected areas, including the relief efforts being exerted there.

Asia's Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid also gave a heartfelt performance of The Prayer with Broadway star and tenor Jon Joven and the UP Ictus chorale.

The TV special ended with an announcement that it was able to collect more than P2,000,000 worth of cash pledges, as well as numerous calls from individuals who were willing to adopt orphans and displaced families.
