The pageant community was in shock with the news of the alleged cancellation of Miss Planet International where Philippine bet and Binibining Pilipinas 2022 first runner-up Herlene Budol will be competing.

In a Facebook post on November 11, Wilbert Tolentino, Herlene's manager, gave an update on what has happened with the pageant and the reason why there was talk of cancellation.

He posted that more than half of the delegates were not able to enter Africa where the pageant will be held, for lack of yellow fever vaccine while Speke Resort, Kampala, one of the sponsors, and supposed accommodation of the delegates backed out due to Ebola Virus issues.

Wilbert added that while the delegates were moved to a different hostel, they could not check in yet and they had to look for new accommodations on their own.

“Kanya-kanyang diskarte muna sa pagkuha ng kanilang matitirahan sa Airbnb At d naman natin masisi sari sari emosyon ang bawat candidata,” he said.

He added that aside from not having a place to stay, the candidates were not able to eat on time too, which caused the high emotions they are experiencing.

Herlene's manager also added that four to six candidates have already backed out since they will run out of budget if they remain in Uganda.

Wilbert, however, assured everyone that Team Philippines, including Herlene, are all safe.

“Hindi man maganda experience naranasan namin dto. but we are proud to say that We are survivors in our own way,” he said.

He added, “ Tumuloy man o indi ang Pageant, in good faith tayo lumaban at pinaghandaan.”

Meanwhile, Jamaican candidate Tonille Watkis posted an Instagram story, saying that the competition had been canceled but that it was an honor to represent Jamaica in the competition.

Czech Republic candidate Tamila Sparrow also posted a story on her own Instagram account, detailing her experiences. She also mentioned how she could not stay silent anymore on what they've experienced and apologized to “everybody who put a lot of effort in us, monetary or mentally wise.”

Miss Planet International, meanwhile, has yet to make an official statement. However, Wilbert mentioned that the chief executive officer of the Miss Planet International organization will be arriving on November 12 and advised everyone to wait for the organization's statement.
