Chris Tiu says PH entertainment can learn from international peers to improve quality

By Kristian Eric Javier

iBilib host Chris Tiu expressed his sentiments on the quality of locally produced shows, saying the entertainment industry should learn from its “international peers.”

His statement came after he attended the Asian Academy Creative Awards held in Singapore on December 7 and 8. The iBilib host received the Best Infotainment award of the show

On his Instagram post, Chris expressed how grateful he is for the show to have been part of the awards night.

Then, he mentioned, “My takeaway from this experience is the realization that we in the PH are certainly lagging behind our foreign peers esp in production quality. We can/must learn from them. Like in anything, it requires some willingness, patience and humility."

In October, several celebrities voiced their sentiments about improving the quality of Philippine entertainment, including Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes.

He said local entertainment industry should “take inspiration from the economic framework of [Korea's] entertainment industry without copying the creative output.

“They are doing a whole of country approach in supporting the arts, and that's something that we can also do. Let's take inspiration from their best practices,” the actor added.

Dingdong and other celebrities's statements came after Senator Jinggoy Estrada mentioned that that he was considering to propose a ban on Korean dramas in Philippines, stressing that Filipinos should support locally-made shows and movies instead.

He added that by promoting foreign TV shows and movies, Filipino artists are losing jobs.

“Kaya minsan pumapasok sa aking isipan na i-ban na itong mga telenovela ng mga foreigners at dapat ang mga artista nating Pilipino talagang may angking galing sa pag-arte ay 'yun naman dapat ang ipalabas natin sa sariling bansa natin,” he added.
