Donnalyn Bartolome sorry for 'wrong choice of words' in 'back to work' comment

Celebrity vogger Donnalyn Bartolome reacted to comments on her post last January 3 about dreading going back to work after the holidays.

In the said post, Donnalyn asked, "Bakit may sad dahil back to work na? 'Di ba dapat masaya ka kasi may chance ka na pagandahin buhay mo at ng pamilya?"

She added, "Dapat grateful kasi may work. If work makes you unhappy, I hope you find a job that will. 'Yung pakikiligin ka and sheet. Anyway, this is just a reminder that having a job is a blessing bessss, change mindset, it's 2023!!"

After many netizens, even public figures including Kim Atienza, have reacted, Donnalyn explained her statement in another social media post on January 5.

She said, "This post could have been phrased better, I agree. It failed to fully phrase the message I wanted to convey. If gusto mo i-apply, up to you. Kung hindi applicable sa'yo yung post then hindi."

She went on to stress, "Lahat ng outcome sa buhay natin madalas ay nakasalalay sa decisions that we make in our lives, small and big especially if it involves the nation *if you know what I mean* When you're not happy, that's when you start doing something about it."

Donnalyn also posted past photos before she became a well known vlogger and described her life back then.

She wrote, "Buti may pics with dates kundi hindi kayo maniniwala. Yung mga sinabi niyo..nagflash back, pinagdaanan ko din. Ginawan ko lang talaga ng paraan. Excited ako for you guys!! Kasi kaya ko pala pinagdaanan yun!! Kaya pala!"

"Pero sana pag ikaw naman ang nakaangat, sana hindi ka nilang tratuhing kaaway. Sana kilalanin ka nila bilang kakampi. Hindi tulad nung nangyari saakin," Donnalyn said.

In a different post, Donnalyn thanked those "who didn't take my post negatively."

She said, "I'm posting to let you know that yung positivity na yun hindi nanggaling sa privilege, matter of fact, it came from experience.. hindi lang talaga ako pala-share ng hirap kasi lagi kong iniisip na baka lalo akong makabigat sa buhay niyo. Mali pala yun.. okay din pala na minsan malaman ng mga tao yung hirap mo at hindi lang yung success mo. Dahil achievements lang ang pinopost ko at hindi masyado yung hirap, though minemention ko yun sa vlog ko from time to time, I just don't dwell kasi baka maging dark masyado, so dahil ganun nga, ang dating talaga is wala akong karapatan magsalita."

She also apologized to everyone she might have hurt with her "back to work" post, and confessed that she has also experienced having a hard life and mentioned living with her grandfather who worked as a janitor.

"Sa lahat ng nasaktan, gusto ko malaman mo pinagdaanan ko din mga sinasabi niyo God knows. Nagcollect ako ng pictures. Dumating ako sa point na lumuluhod ako nagmamakaawa kay God para may makain the next day, pangbayad sa tuition.. sa bahay, bills."

"Naranasan kong wala nang trabaho kaya siguro sobra ko pahalagahan.. naranasan ko magcommute sa Bus, MRT, Jeep, FX, Tricycle.. yung pila, siksikan, init.. alam ko talaga. Pero siguro sa pagpapalaki talaga saakin kung bakit ako ganito. Janitor ang lolo ko noon, sasakay kami sa bus.. walang bahid na reklamo sa init at pagod kaya na-adapt ko siguro? Nakapagpatapos siya ng tatlong anak, wala talagang negative na Lumabas sa bibig niya tungkol sa trabaho niya, proud pa siya dala dala niya pa apo niya sa pagJajanitor. 🥹 Men baka kaya magaling ako ma-mop cause I got it from my lolo?"

She concluded her post, emphasizing the purpose of her post and the main message she wanted to give, "And I'm only sharing these experiences in hopes to show sincerity of me admitting that error and not just to save face, kasi like all of you may pinagdaanan din ako so last thing I'd want to do is hurt any of you. Madali mag-sorry pero how do you know the person really meant no harm? Pag nakilala mo siyang konti. That is the purpose of this post."

Earlier this year, Donnalyn also received flak from netizens for her baby-themed photoshoot and her "kanto-themed" birthday party in August.
