In a video uploaded in Netflix Korea, Hye-kyo discussed her thoughts on portraying Dong-eun.

She stated, “Firstly, after I got the role of Dong-eun, I didn't think of looking pretty at all.

“She didn't have the time or energy to take care of her appearance like that. I thought maybe she isn't taking care of herself too much as a human being, but it seemed like something Dong-eun would do, so I really didn't worry about things like that in this drama.”

The K-drama actress also revealed that she had to watch her diet to effectively portray the role.

In fact, Hye-kyo explained that it was important that she had a skinny body in a particular scene, wherein Dong-eun showed off her scars to Joo Yeo-jeong, played by Lee Do-hyun.

She recalled, “Especially in this scene as Ms. Kim mentioned, I wanted the viewers to feel bad for her, when they see her skinny body instead of something pretty.”

“I thought that's where the focus should be. Since this was filmed during the pandemic, sometimes the filming got postponed so the days of eating konjac rice got extended, too.”

The Glory was written by Kim Eun-sook and directed by An Gil-ho.
