David Licauco

In an interview on the Updated with Nelson Canlas podcast, David detailed that he experienced everything from riding the jeep and the bus, even walking along EDSA because he did not have enough money for his fare.

As an actor and businessman, Maria Clara at Ibarra star David Licauco shares that he does not have everything, contrary to what many believed. In fact, the actor revealed that he had to work hard for everything he has right now.

In an interview on the Updated with Nelson Canlas podcast, David detailed that he experienced everything from riding the jeep and the bus, even walking along EDSA because he did not have enough money for his fare.

During the interview, he looked back on the time that he had crooked teeth. He was 14 years old and he had to wear braces to correct them. He asked his mom to take him to their dentist in Makati to make adjustments, but his mom declined.

“So siyempre like me na being persistent and passionate sa... parang gusto ko gumanda ngipin ko, ang ginawa ko - kasi we live in ano, we live in sa may Balintawak sa isang village doon and then siyempre naglakad ako. At 14 years old, naglakad ako sa EDSA, tapos nag jeep ako, tapos nag MRT ako,” he added.

The Pambansang Ginoo recalled that he missed his MRT stop and had to walk all the way back one station because he only had enough money left for his train ride going home.

David also talked about the misconception that he came from a well off family and that he did not have to work a day his life for anything.

It wasn't easy for me,” he added.

Despite the hardships, David said that he's proud that he experienced commuting. “Simple lang ako. Siguro iniisip ng mga tao na medyo rich kid nga pero hindi naman talaga,” he added.
