Mav Gonzales, John Consulta join I-Witness

Together with Kara David, Sandra Aguinaldo, Atom Araullo, and Howie Severino, Mav and John continue Public Affairs' great legacy of the pioneering and internationally-acclaimed documentary program.

As the voice of the young generation, Mav is no stranger to news and public affairs. She is one of GMA Network's news reporters and segment hosts. She also co-hosted the magazine show On Record in 2021. Prior to her career as a news reporter, Mav also wrote for various online sites and was a sports correspondent and courtside reporter. She was the first reporter to break the story on the Taal Volcano eruption in 2020. As I-Witness host, Mav will share stories that Gen Zs, millennials, and young professionals can relate to.

A recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the UP Los Baños and Outstanding Senior News Correspondent awardee from the Public Attorney's Office in 2012, John is known for his bold disposition in delivering news and special reports. He has been making documentaries for I-Witness and Brigada as well as exclusive stories for GMA Integrated News. As one of the new hosts of I-Witness, John aims to help improve the world, one documentary at a time.

On Saturday (Feb 18), in her first documentary as a new host of I-Witness, Mav brings to the public a fresh insight on finding love via online dating apps.

With numerous online dating sites to choose from, the user has unlimited options at his fingertips. By merely swiping left or right, and waiting for a match -- this simple action can start a potential relationship. But is this enough to find true love and real happiness on social media? This is amplified by these major factors: trusting and falling for a “virtual” person through chatting and dubious video calls. The traditional courtship is replaced with simple chatting containing flowery words. For the vulnerable, lies can morph into truths. Hence, online love scams proliferate worldwide where victims are scammed of their hard-earned money.

In March, John Consulta covers one of the biggest crime stories that spans two countries: the Philippines and Japan. He will track the footsteps of “Luffy,” a wanted Japanese criminal who is responsible for a string of robberies in Japan while operating here in the Philippines.

For more than two decades, I-Witness continues to be one of the leading TV documentary programs in the country. At the recently concluded 2023 Platinum Stallion National Media Awards, it was named Best Documentary TV Show. It also won as Most Outstanding Documentary Sow at the 5th Gawad Lasallianetta Awards, where two of its hosts, Atom Araullo and Kara David, were recognized as Most Outstanding Male and Female Documentarists.

Catch I-Witness every Saturday, 10:15pm on GMA. Kapuso abroad can watch it via international channel GMA Pinoy TV.
