JYP Entertainment is going bigger this year after it debuted its newest boy group in six years, NEXZ, on Monday, May 20, with the single “Ride the Vibe.”

NEXZ is a seven-member boy group composed of Yu, Tomoya, Haru, So geon, Seita, Hyui, and Yuki. They all battled for their position in JYP Entertainment's Nizi Project 2 last 2023, where they were also officially introduced as surviving members in December of the same year.

Nizi Project 2 was a collaboration between Sony Music Entertainment Japan and JYP Entertainment focused on creating a Japanese boy group dedicated to the next generation, hence, the group name NEXZ.

According to the founder of JYP Entertainment, Park Jin-young, NEXZ, pronounced as “Nex-Z” mirrors the band's missing to “open the future and lead the next generation,” which should be done with their refreshing music and memorable choreographies like their debut single “Ride the Vibe.”

“Ride the Vibe” is a hippy, refreshing track that pegs “experimental” type of music. While its foundation is highly inclined to hip-hop, NEXZ also showcased their talents in rapping and singing pop.

Their music video also mirrored their youthful aura and fresh vibes, much like embodying its mission to be the next generation's boy group. In just 3 minutes, NEXZ served the K-pop world something to look forward to and an impeccable fusion of culture that should produce quality music in the future.

Aside from “Ride the Vibe,” NEXZ also released a b-side titled “Starlight,” which tells the story of their beginning as a K-pop group.

During an interview, NEXZ member Haru shared their plans and wishes for their career, saying, “Our goal, as a group, is to try out new and different [music and performances] without restricting ourselves. I think we can show the individual strengths of the members on stage through the performances and the vocals. I think that defines our vibe.”

Meanwhile, K-pop fans are highly anticipating the journey that lies ahead NEXZ, especially since they are JYP Entertainment's first boy group in six years after Stray Kids, who debuted last 2018.
