Ben&Ben dropped a new song on August 26 and Paolo Benjamin Guico, one of the lead vocals of the band, shared the story of how the song came to be and his inspiration for writing it.
In an Instagram post, Paolo announced the release of the song titled "The Ones We Once Loved" and revealed how he's “excited and terrified” to share the song. The song was also announced on the band's official Instagram page.
“It is one of the most personal, and vulnerable songs I've ever written,” he added.
He posted two pictures detailing part of the inspiration for the song. He then recalled a long-term relationship he had with someone and how it's already ended. He also revealed that there was an “incredible journey of self-discovery, healing, and growth” for both of them which resulted in peace and acceptance, and how the closure came to them.
“It wasn't easy, and there were many emotions that went into that process,” he added.
Paolo then said that the emotions he was feeling are written into the song as well.
“So, my prayer is that if you're going through your own process right now, or there are unspoken feelings or thoughts you may still have, may this song help you go through them,” he said.
He also wished for the listeners to find the “closure you search for” as well as the happiness that anyone deserves.
He then said a few words about the song itself, saying “What a ride it's been, pouring emotions out on this song. It is yours now.”
Ben&Ben is a 9-man folk pop/pop rock band best known for their singles Pagtingin," "Maybe the Night," among others. In May, the band announced a major concert to happen on September 3 as a send-off concert for the band's eight-day US concert tour.
