Parasite star Park So-dam, 30, is in recovery after undergoing surgical treatment for papillary thyroid cancer .

Korean pop culture website Soompi reported that Park's agency, Artist Company, made the announcement about her medical condition on Monday, December 13.

“Actress Park So-dam was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer from her regular health examination, and she completed surgery following the doctor's recommendation,” the agency shared.

According to Columbia University Irving Medical Center, papillary thyroid cancer is the eighth most common type of cancer among women especially when younger than 25. However, it has a low risk for mortality since most diagnosed patients can recover from it if detected and treated early.

In line with the news, So-dam will also be sitting out the promotional activities for her upcoming film Special Delivery which is slated to premiere on January 12.

Artist Company expressed the actress' dismay for being unable to join her supporters during the film's highly anticipated premiere.

“As the long-awaited Special Delivery is soon premiering, actress Park So-dam is very disappointed that she cannot be together with fans who have waited and shown support. Although actress Park So-dam cannot participate in Special Delivery promotions, she is cheering on the Special Delivery premiere,” they said.

The agency also assured their commitment to assisting the actress through her recovery process so she can “greet everyone in good health in the future.”

So-dam starred in a slew of South Korean movies and television series but the 2019 Oscar-winning film Parasite propelled her into global fame.

She is also popularly known for her lead roles in Cinderella and the Four Knights, and Record of Youth.
