The Philippine entertainment industry is heartbroken that Asia's Queen of Songs, Pilita Corrales, has passed away at 85.
The actress and her granddaughter, Janine Guttierez, confirmed the heartbreaking news of her mamita's passing on April 12 on her Instagram account, “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved mami and mamita, Pilita Corrales.
“Pilita touched the lives of many, not only with her songs but also with her kindness and generosity. She will be remembered for her contributions to the entertainment industry, but most of all for her love of life and family,” Janine posted on her Instagram.
Theater actor and comedian Pepe Herrera remembered Pilita for her iconic singing talent when he posted a video of their impromptu duet on his Instagram account. In the video, shot during the taping of their movie “Ikaw,” together with Janine, they sang “Ikaw ang Mamahalin” by Martin Nievera.
Pepe shared that during their scenes, he would stand next to the Asia's Queen of Songs, “For some reason, nakakatulong sa akin ang liwanag ng pagkatao niya. Bagets na bagets ang mga hirit, napapangiti ako lagi sa mga biro at throwback stories niya.”
The theater actor revealed that their duet was impromptu, with no rehearsals, and with Pepe not used to singing the song.
“Umasa ako sa kanyang kumpas. And I flowed with her Magic. What a master,” Pepe shared.
Pepe ended his post by saying how it was an honor for him to work and sing with Mamita, promising to honor her in all of his performances. He also gave a heartwarming message to Janine, Monching, and their whole family.
“It's been an Honor working and singing with you, Mamita. I will honor you every time I perform. Yakap na mahigpit @janinegutierrez, @monchinggutz at sa inyong buong pamilya.” he posted.
