GMA Network once again punches the biggest and strongest impact on Philippine television as it launches "Pinoy Records" on December 8, right after "Wish Ko Lang." A new concept "Sana suportahan niyo ito; [dito natin mapapanood] ang hindi pa natin nakikitang galing ng mga Pilipino," says Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao during the Pinoy Records press conference at the 17th floor of GMA Network last Decmber 4, 2007. stars GMA Senior Vice President for Entertainment Ms. Wilma Galvante explains that the GMA management told the creative staff to cook up something different for Manny; something the public would not expect from the boxer. "Manny will set his own record as a TV host," she says. "Kasi credible siyang pangunahan ang project na yan. It's not just any other show. It's Pinoy Records with Manny Pacquiao!" This newest exciting, entertaining, and exhilarating reality program features the world-renowned boxing champion in his first hosting stint as a Kapuso. It also brings to the viewers the much-admired Ateneo basketball heartthrob Chris Tiu in his television debut outside the playing court. stars Together, the two sports idols will deliver blow-by-blow accounts of physical challenges among amateur athletes and non-athletes and showcase fast-breaking celebrities and non-celebrities in their own sporty activities. Ms. Ali Dedicatoria, Program Unit Manager (PUM) of Pinoy Records, explains why GMA chose Chris Tiu among all the other athletes out there. "Siya ang pinili namin dahil magaling siyang mag-host. Pinagsama rin namin ang dalawang pinakasikat na sports sa Pilipinas, and basketball at boxing." Ms. Wilma Galvante adds, "Isa siya sa mga very responsible young Filipinos," referring to Chris's achievements not only academically, but also outside of school. He's active in leadership positions [he's with the Sanggunian ng Kabataan (SK)] and aside from being a star Ateneo cager, he also competed at the SEA games! More tidbits starsWhat other record is Manny proud to have made, besides his boxing stats? "Mapagmamalaki ko ang karangalang nabigay ko sa bansa," he answers. There was a rumor that Manny's fame is getting to his head and he walked out during a show taping. Is this true? He gamely answered, "Chos! Hindi totoo yun!" The soon-to-be-29 year-old boxer [This December 17] is currently finishing his college education at a university in General Santos, his hometown. "Everyday may school ako, at kinakausap ko teacher ko pag maga-absent ako. Kahapon nag-final exams sa Philosophy, tapos ngayon may school dapat, kaya lang absent ako! Bukas back-to-school na naman, at sa Saturday and Sunday, taping." Does Manny get special treatment in school? He is a world-class boxer, after all! "Pag pumapasok ako, ako lang at 'yung teacher," he admits. One-on-one sa isang room. Para naman hindi ma-distract ang ibang estudyante." He also says his favorite subjects are philosophy and math. What to watch out for This Saturday, Pinoy Records features "Suntukan sa Sagingan" wherein two amateur boxers will be punching down banana trees as part of their physical challenge. "Yun yung mga ginawa ko noong nag-uumpisa pa lang ako sa boxing," shares Manny. "Gagawin namin lahat ng nagawa ni Manny dati, bago pa siya naging 'Manny Pacquiao [na kilalang-kilala ngayon]," explains Rico Gutierrez, who's directing the show. "Nakadalawang episodes na kami. Okay naman pagho-host ko, naka-experience na rin ako sa channel 13 na mag-host ng Manny Pacquiao Sports Idol, kaya hindi naman na ako naiilang," says Manny. Good-looking Chris Tiu conducts a one-on-one interview with Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight Brandon Vera. He will also bring PBA star Renren Ritualo to a street basketball match where the cager plays against a street-basketball champ. "Sikat on the Spot" features celebrities Mark Herras and Marky Cielo in a "Dance Revo King" showdown. In the segment "Iba ang Pinoy," the program goes to Angono for the race of the Higantes. "Astig ni Kid" will showcase the moves and dance routines of three-year old figure skater Bobsie Riesgo. "Karamihan sa features dito, bago pa lang na records. First time pa lang on Philippine TV [gagawin ito]. By the time na established na, either tatapatan o hihigitin [na ng mga tao] ang records na [existing]. Magiging official chronicler ang GMA!" says direk Rico proudly. Get ready for fast throws and brawny blows.
