Actress Coney Reyes couldn't hide her excitement at the inclusion of her son in People Asia's People of the Year 2021 list.
The young Pasig City mayor was joined by other high-profile personalities including Philippine Vice President Leni Robrero, businessman and party-list Representative Mikee Romero, PLDT Smart Foundation head Chaye Cabal-Revilla, UP-PGH Director Dr. Gerardo “Gap” Legaspi, and Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla.
Vico was also named as the magazine's People's Choice Awardee.
“Congratulations, son! I'm so proud of you!” wrote Coney on Instagram.
The veteran actress, who stars in the Kapuso series Love of My Life, likewise shared a photo of the lifestyle magazine's cover with Vico on it.
The theme of the list is “Healing the world by serving others,” an obvious nod to the pandemic that marred the entire year, not just in the Philippines but worldwide.
“From battling the pandemic to uplifting others in the face of calamities, to bringing opportunities to countless Filipinos in search for greener pastures, these 'People of the Year' awardees continue to spread a contagion of hope,” the magazine explained the basis for its selection.
Vico, 31, has earned the admiration of the public for his proactive style of public service.
His brand of leadership was highlighted even more at the height of the nationwide lockdown imposed early this year due to the COVID-19 crisis.
Google Philippines revealed last week that Vico was among the most-searched male personalities for the year alongside Korean actors Hyun Bin and Kim Soo-yun, foreign leaders Kim Jong-un from North Korea and US President-elect Joe Biden, entrepreneur Jeremy Jauncey, and Kapuso funnyman Michael V.
