Former commercial model and TV host Karel Marquez is now a bona fide actress in every sense of the word. The celebrity mom continues to push the envelope in the acting department in her role as Evelyn in My Husband’s Lover.

GMANetwork.com caught up with the multi-talented Kapuso star who talked about the joys of being an on-screen and real life mom.

Initially, acting was not Karel’s comfort zone, but she gave it a shot because she liked the challenge.

“Before, madali lang sa akin ‘yung hosting kasi English, pero after that, natuto ako especially in speaking Tagalog fluently because of show business,” shared the Kapuso actress.

It’s a breath of fresh air for Karel to play a character that a lof of women can relate to. Her latest role is one of her favorites so far.

“Sa totoong buhay, may Evelyn talaga. Normal lang naman ako na ate. Minsan may moments na naiinggit ako kay Lally, may moments na hindi naman ako perpektong tao, hindi ako mayaman, may mga problems here and there. Bottomline, mabait pa rin akong ate at nanay,” said Karel on her character.

The talented actress is a mom of two: Kailey Adriana, 4 years old and Kyler Armand, 3 years old. Her experiences in mother hood has definitely helped her in shaping her on-screen persona.

“It helps a lot, being a mom myself. Siyempre, natural lang at iniimagine ko talaga ang mga anak ko ‘pag may scenes ako with the kids. ‘Yung difference lang ni Evelyn, tamad siya before because she quit her job. Ako kasi, workaholic eh,” explained Karel.

Motherhood is a beautiful thing for Karel because it has made her a stronger person. It has given her learnings that continue to guide her in facing life’s challenges.

“I realized, whether it’s in the script or in real life, kailangan talaga give and take kayo para mapasaya niyo ang isa’t isa and it’s really hard work. Although minsan, mali rin ‘yung ibang tao, ‘yung ibang partners, nagkakasala rin sa totoong buhay, it’s not the end of the world. ‘Pag nadapa ka, just stand up right away. Go on, and even become better for the kids,” stated Karel.

Karel considers her kids to be her biggest inspiration. They motivate her to succeed, which is why she works hard for their future.

“Bonding with my kids is very important kasi siyempre minsan, two times to three times a week ‘yung taping namin. Minsan, I finish madaling araw na, so I make it a point to spend time with them usually sa bahay, kasi next year pa mag-aaral ‘yung kids ko, so minsan naglalaro kami ng Kinect sa Xbox. Sometimes we just play sa room ko.”

The model-turned-actress still makes time for herself when time permits. What is her idea of relaxation?

“For my “me time”, I love watching movies. I like going to the salon. Pero talaga, I love being a mommy 24/7, talagang non-stop. Kahit at work nga, that’s what I do.”
